Benefits of professional interconnection support
- Faster Permission to Operate
Expert handling of interconnection applications and documentation minimizes delays, keeping your project on track and getting your system producing energy and savings as quickly as possible. - Proper Net Metering Setup
Correct interconnection ensures you receive full credit for excess solar production sent to the grid, maximizing your financial returns and preventing billing issues. - Elimination of Bureaucratic Frustration
You never have to decipher utility requirements, chase application status, or coordinate inspection schedules—we handle all utility coordination and keep you informed. - Long-Term System Recognition
Proper interconnection establishes your solar system in utility records, preventing future issues with billing, meter reading, or system modifications that require utility coordination.
Ready to go solar?
Why choose solar Central for interconnection support
Property owners choose Solar Central for interconnection support because we’ve successfully connected hundreds of solar systems and understand the specific requirements of Florida utilities. We know which utilities respond quickly and which require persistent follow-up, what documentation each utility requires and how they want it formatted, common reasons for interconnection delays and how to avoid them, and who to contact when applications stall. Our established relationships with utility representatives often expedite reviews that might otherwise languish. We take responsibility for the interconnection process rather than leaving you to navigate utility bureaucracy alone or waiting passively while your completed installation sits idle. You get proactive management, regular status updates, and a team that knows how to move your interconnection through utility systems efficiently.

How long does utility interconnection typically take?
Interconnection timelines vary by utility but typically range from 2-6 weeks after installation completion. Some utilities process applications quickly (1-2 weeks), while others have longer review periods (4-6 weeks or more). We provide estimated timelines based on your specific utility’s typical processing time and track your application to catch any unusual delays. While we can’t control utility processing speed, our experience and follow-up often accelerate reviews compared to installers without established utility relationships.
What is permission to operate (PTO) and why is it important?
Permission to operate (PTO) is official utility authorization to turn on your solar system and begin sending excess production to the grid. Operating without PTO violates utility interconnection agreements and can result in fines, disconnection, or loss of net metering benefits. Even though your system is physically complete and passed inspections, it must remain off until utility grants PTO. We manage this process and notify you immediately when PTO is received so your system can begin producing energy legally.
What happens if the utility requires system changes?
Occasionally utilities request modifications to system specifications, additional equipment, or changed documentation. We review all utility requests, explain what’s needed and why, implement required changes at no additional cost if they’re minor, and discuss any significant modifications with you before proceeding. Our upfront knowledge of utility requirements minimizes change requests, but we handle any that arise without leaving you to negotiate with the utility.
How do I know net metering is working correctly?
After interconnection approval, your utility meter will track both energy consumed from the grid and excess energy sent to the grid. Your electric bill should show credits for solar production sent to the grid, typically at the retail electricity rate. We verify net metering setup during commissioning and can help you understand your first few bills to ensure credits are applied correctly. If billing issues arise, we assist with utility communication to resolve discrepancies.
Can I still get interconnection approval if my installation is already complete?
Yes, though it’s better if we manage interconnection proactively during the installation process. If you’ve had a solar system installed by another company but haven’t received PTO, we can assist with completing the interconnection process, reviewing what documentation has been submitted, identifying what’s missing or incorrect, resubmitting applications properly, and following through to final approval. We charge separately for interconnection-only services on systems we didn’t install.
